Voted Off!

American Idol once again cut down their male and female rosters down to 8 each. This week’s eliminated contestants came quite as a surprise to me… I didn’t quite expect to a few of them to say farewell so soon…

American Idol March 1 (Elmiminated)ALAINA ALEXANDER

Though she didn’t shine as much during yesterdays performance, she definitely didn’t deserve to pack her bags and go so early in the competition. Her rendition of “Not Ready To Make Nice” was not bad… though not breathtaking as well. But I believe there were a few other girls who deserved to leave the contest sooner than Alaina. And she was one of the better looking female performers as well… which should’ve helped. I was expecting Antonella Barba to be sent home instead… no not because of the “revealing photos”, but due to her “very very mediocre” performance.

American Idol March 1 (Elmiminated)AJ TABALDO

Wonderful voice. Great vocal control. Little charisma. His looks and his surname somehow tells me he might be pinoy… not sure though. His song selection, “Feelin Good”, showcased a different facet of his vocal talent. He shouldn’t have been eliminated prematurely… he was one of the better performers in male roster. I was actually expecting Sanjaya Malakar to be sent home. Even Sanjaya himself was surprised. On a different note, it’s been two weeks that I’ve seen AJ perform on stage and on both performances his mannerisms and movements seem so… so… <trying to find the right words>… ummm… “unmanly”? Everytime I watch him project, I think to myself… “Hmmm, he appears to be peeping out of his closet”! He seems quite comfortable with those suspicious facial expressions and frequent flailing fingers. Not pointing fingers, though. But it does beg the question… “Is this guy GAY”?

American Idol March 1 (Elmiminated)LESLIE HUNT

Ahh, yes… the “dog walker”. Once again, “Feeling Good” was the song selection… and once again, it cost a hopeful her chances of staying longer in the competition. From the start, I didn’t really believe she was talented enough to go toe-to-toe with the other more gifted contestants. Or maybe her “jazzy/bluesy” style just doesn’t appeal to me. Probably didn’t appeal to a whole bunch of voters as well cause her stylish low register couldn’t save her a slot on the Female’s Top 8. Tsk-Tsk!

American Idol March 1 (Elmiminated)NICHOLAS PEDRO

Another good singer… eliminated due to (according to Simon Cowell) lack of charisma. Mr. “Fly Me To The Moon” was surprisingly booted off and it just goes to show that although American Idol is a singing competition… it’s also a voting contest. Alas, with the fans thrown into the equation, you never really know who’s safe and not. Even a wonderful and original rendition doesn’t guarantee you another week in the show… it does help, though.

So, what have we learned, boy and girls? Nothing we already know! The fans will vote and the results will be tallied… and the contestant with the most lackluster performance will NOT always be the one who’s sent packing. It’s something we have seen countless times on this show, but never fails to surprise. And that’s probably one of the beauties of American Idol… it’s spontaneity and unpredictability.

after the dismal elimination of these four, i hope America gets to realize that American Idol is and should still be a singing contest. i hope the best of who’s left wins. these four may not have enough star charisma to get them winning, but at least having them stay could make the selection tougher, and make for a more exciting viewing experience. Instead of an obvious, predictable finale later.

Yeah… but it just goes to show how diverse America’s tastes are. But I sure would like to have seen some of these guys go further… too bad. 😦

Basta, I want Antonella Barba in the final 12. I like the Brian McKnight look-a-like too (what’s his name?). Nice voice. Sorry, wala kasi akong alam ko anong voice ang maganda. *winkx*
I am quite tired of seeing “healthy” finalists.
