Ablaze for God

Ablaze for God (Book Cover)I am currently reading a book called, “Ablaze for God”, authored by Wesley L. Duewel.  Only recently have I started reading it and I’m practically glued to it.

To tell you honestly, I’m not much of a book person.  Really.  I mean, I read a few stories compiled in “Chicken Soup for the Soul” and the like… but only to that extent.  I seem to have a pretty short attention span when it comes to novels and such.

That was then, I guess.  Because I’m actually starting to enjoy deep reading and reflecting after every few paragraphs.  I notice myself staring into a blank wall or into nothingness just letting the words sink in… letting my whole being absorb the teachings on each chapter.

I believe the Holy Spirit has somehow ignited my inner desire to learn more about God.  It’s as if I thirst and quench for more teachings… it’s like I thrive in discussions about the Lord.

This book is currently the topic of the next two weeks of our KG (Koinonia Group) gatherings.  And though we are only supposed to tackle certain chapters from it, it looks like I’ll be going through it from cover to cover.

I pray for more of this unquenchable desire to know more about the Lord.

Two Minds Crack

Two Minds CrackSome of you probably still remember the group, “Two Minds Crack”… the band that performed the New Wave hit song, “Upside Down”, back in the early 80s.

Well, a few months back I posted a remake of their hit single, performed by “Candles”… a band I used to co-manage till they disbanded (creative differences).  This particular remake was included in the group’s debut album which came out during the last quarter of 2006 under Viva Records.  Long before 6CycleMind’s version was ever released.

When I first featured the song here on my blog months back, I got a surprise visit by Two Minds Crack band member, Kevin Jones!  He actually left a short comment below my post commending the band on how well he thought the remake was done.  His message was as follows:

“Hi, I was the lead singer/guitarist in Two Minds Crack and I wrote Upside Down – I really enjoyed the Candles version – keep up the good work!!”

Earlier today, I got another message on the same post… but this time it came from Two Minds Crack co-member, Pete Martin!  His message:

“Greetings Candles…loved the version of Upside Down.Don’t listen to Kevin Jones…. I wrote upside down…. I was guitarist and keyboard player in Two Minds Crack… that Jones fella gets everywhere!Joking aside, we wrote that and first recorded it back in 1983 ish, the finished version being released on The Victory Parade album in 1986. We didn’t find out until the 90’s that it was a big hit over there which was a shame cos to be sure we would have come out and played some gigs. It’s a big thrill to hear someone cover one of your tracks believe me. Keep rocking in the free world son…..and at least you got Kev’s words correct !!! Pete.”

Hahaha… I was particularly amused by his last words (“and at least you got Kev’s words correct!!!”) coz I also found out that Pete is aware of 6CycleMind’s version.  And listening closely to their own rendition of the 80s New Wave classic, you’ll notice that there is quite a number of wrong lyrics in it.

Well, it’s a shame Candles disbanded so early in their careers… but things like these do happen.  Oh well… I guess that’s that.

I suppose it’s only appropriate that I feature Candles’ version of “Upside Down” for everyone to enjoy.  So… without further ado…

UPSIDE DOWN by Candles

My WordPress T-Shirt! (Thanks Matt and Maya!)

Earlier this week a “claiming slip” was delivered to our house by our friendly neighborhood postman.  The slip stated that there was a package for me just waiting to be picked up at local post office.

This actually boggled me since I don’t recall ordering anything over the net… but, nevertheless… I went to check it out.

I headed over to “Window 1″ as instructed by the claim stub and waited for the clerk to retrieve my package.  She came out of a room with a small plastic package and handed it over to me.  As soon as I felt it… I already knew what it was… it was only then that I remembered that Matt Mullenweg (Co-Founder of WordPress/Automattic) and Maya (Desai) promised to send me their official WordPress T-Shirt and asked for my postal address two weeks ago.  Images below:

I have been in close correspondence with Matt and Maya, coordinating stuff about our newly founded “WordPress Pinoys” Community… also since Matt and Maya said that officially sanctioned WordPress events here in the Philippines organized and facilitated by our group would be a great idea.

We are also sending them (as promised also) a couple of our official “WordPress Pinoys” T-Shirt as soon as everything has been finalized (design and manufacturing).

So… THANK YOU, Matt and Maya!  I simply LOVE the shirt! Thank you also for all the speedy replies to my emails.  The shirt fits me to a tee!  The size I asked from you guys was just right!  Hope to see pics of you guys wearing our “WordPress Pinoys” tees soon when we send them over!

I’ll be posting some images of myself as well wearing the WordPress shirt soon…!

Game 1!

I recently signed up to participate in our Community’s friendly basketball game competition and Game 1 was held at last Sunday.  I was part of the Gold Team and we were scheduled to play against the Green Team.

I figured I could use a little more cardio other than what I was already getting at my gym… it’ll help hasten my weight loss program (Oh, I’m already down to 150 LBS).

My wife and kids came along and watched the festivities… they had lots of fun as well!  I could hear them shouting and screaming everytime I held the ball or made a score.  “Iba na ang may pala!”  Hahaha!

At the end of the day, Gold Team (my team!) won by 11 points… a convincing win!  We are scheduled to challenge the White Team next week (I think…).

Some fun images were taken during the event by my wife which you could view below.  As you can see, we obviously didn’t have any official uniform yet since due to the short time given… but we’ll have real uniforms for our next game and I’ll be sure to post new images here as well.

Nice game, guys!

The New "iPod Touch"

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better… Steve Jobs announces (and reveals) the newest design of the iPod which he calls the “iPod Touch“!

8mm thin (can you believe that?!) and the display is just as big as that of the iPhone… no more click wheel (except for the new Nano)… all touch screen! In fact, you’d mistake it to be an iPhone if you don’t look closer…!

Oh man! Me likey… AGAIN! Me likey… so much!

The NEW iPod Nano (3rd Gen)! Me Likey A Lot!

New iPod Nano

The entire iPod lineup is getting revamped — including the Nano.

The new Nanos will include 2-inch screens with QVGA resolution, and boast the same quality as the iPod video. These new displays have the highest pixel density that Apple has ever shipped, and it seems the extra-wide players will sport an “enhanced” UI with its own version of Cover Flow.

The iPod Nano will come bundled with three games, including a circular-Arkanoid rip-off called Vortex. The battery life is fairly impressive as well, with Apple touting 24 hours of playback for audio, and 5 hours for video (Yes!  It plays VIDEO now!).

The 4GB model will be selling for $149, though it’s only available in silver, while the rainbow-colored 8GB will cost $199.

Both models will be in stores “by this weekend”.

Me likey likey!  Darn…!  I drooled all over the floor…!

Birthday Tribute…

Kuya GermsI recently guested on QTV’s, “The Sweet Life” which is hosted by Lucy Torres-Gomez.  And if you were paying attention to my blog a few weeks back, you’d know that this is already my second appearance on that particular show.  The first one was when I came out with my little daughter and, frankly, she had most of the exposure then.  Haha!

This time around, I was invited to be part of German “Kuya Germs” Moreno’s surprise birthday celebration.  Kuya Germs’ 75th birthday is still on October, but the program was doing a series of advanced tapings and the “tribute” was one of them.

I was asked to bring a card for Kuya Germs, but I thought a birthday card too simple… too… ummm… common.  So, I decided to give him a personalized CD of all my recent compositions with a birthday message written on the side of the disc.  Why a disc filled with compositions, you ask?  Well, mainly because I never really would’ve realized my interest in music long ago had it not been for his show that I was a regular of:  “That’s Entertainment”.

150px-GMA_logo_1980That was where I actually honed my talent as a musician… I even, for a time, became a musical arranger for his weekly Sunday television program, “GMA Supershow”.

Anyways, I was called in on stage to surprise him and to share with televiewers some good memories I’ve had of Kuya Germs.

So, I went in… exchanged pleasantries and went on to present my “token”.  Before I handed the gift, I explained on-air why I opted to bring that particular present.  Then I continued to read the small message out loud in front of him (the text was small and considering his age, I was afraid to strain his eyes…)

The message read:

- Chuckie Dreyfus

And as I looked up at him to hand it over, he took it and wanted to speak to the mic… but he couldn’t.  His eyes were welling up.  He tried to speak but got choked up… he stopped and looked down… sobbing… silent.  I thought we were gonna cut.  But we continued to roll… silence all around… only his sniffing could be heard.

Then, short of breath… he spoke.  He told everyone how much he was proud of me… he gripped my hand so tight and still continued to choke up in tears.  I didn’t actually think I’d make that kind of an impact on him during that taping.  I had never made him cry like “that”… I mean, by myself… yet I did.

I cannot fully put into words how I truly felt during those minutes… But as much as I knew that the show’s episode was done for him… to pay tribute to his accomplishments in the industry… a celebration of his life… and in recognition of his importance in showbusiness… during that particular moment, it was I who felt important… and that everything I have achieved was all that mattered to him.

Happy birthday, Kuya Germs.

Thank you for everything… God bless you always…

I Want One!

The Catholic Holy Bible (NAB)I saw this handy and gorgeous looking Bible a week and a half ago over the net at this site but unfortunately (for me), the item is only available online and abroad.  It’s a Catholic Holy Bible (New American Bible) with Black Bonded Leather.  And it’s quite affordable with a price of $39.95.

It’s the only New American Bible in that size with the Words of Christ in Red.

Problem is… there aren’t any sold in the Philippines.

I’ve always wanted an item like this… not the typical hard-bound bibles they sell everywhere.  I’ve seen some sold at “Hobbes & Landes” and “Power Books” but all I found were NIV versions.  Sigh…!

It’d be nice to carry something like this during bible study and prayer meetings.  Oh well… probably next time.

Anyone care to send me one?  LOL!  :P

Aliens Vs. Predator – Requiem

Finally, the trailer for the upcoming AVP sequel entitled, “Alien vs. Predator – Requiem”, has been released. You can watch it below… for those who get squeamish on scenes with blood and decapitations… just skip the vid. Gory trailer… gory. But, hey… what’s an AVP flick without a bloodfest right?!

Enjoy!

Updates… Updates…

So many things have happened the past few days that I didn’t really get the chance to update my blog… funny!  So, let me enumerate the more notable events which happened just recently.

  1. Tooth Begone!
molarI recently (about a week ago) had my molar extracted!  It’s been a long and dreary battle with my tooth and finally, I decided to just have the dentist yank it out.  Anyone who has ever experienced a really bad toothache can relate.  You can’t work, can’t talk, practically cannot concentrate on anything at all!  Not to mention the bad mood that you’re in throughout the day.
But that doesn’t mean I’m pain-free already.  The tooth that was pulled out was a BIG one!  So, I’m still kinda recovering from it… and I’m still taking pain killers (though not as frequent as the first few days after the extraction).  Couldn’t eat right… oh, and I was adviced by my dentist not to engage in any strenuous activities for 3 days!  There goes my weightlifting routine for the week… bummer!  So was “sexy time”!  LOL!
  2. Under the Weather
Apparently, this whole tooth extraction thingy has caused me to feel under the weather… and the cold sore just beside my swelling gum ain’t helping at all!  More pain relievers!  Dammit!
  3. WordPress Pinoys
Wordpress Pinoys Community! Sali Na! My baby project which has taken off quite successfully!  I’ve been busy creating a virtual home for all Pinoy WordPressers (WordPress.Com and WordPress.Org)… I’m very grateful that the vast majority of WordPress Pinoy Bloggers have joined the group.  Lots of events, projects and ideas will come out of this newly formed community.  Some of ‘em are already in the works… just you wait for it!
In a span of merely 4 days, we’ve grown to an impressive 84 members already!  Our members are just as enthusiastic about this group as I am!  I’m pretty sure there are more Filipino WordPressers out there who haven’t heard of our community but slowly and surely we will gather each and every one of ‘em.  Hopefully we can eventually hold WordPress-sanctioned events here in the Philippines… that would be cool, huh?!  In fact, I was able to talk to Matt (Mullenweg) of WordPress/Automattic and he thought that the community and the official events the group plans to engage in are very good ideas.  So, if you’re a Pinoy with a WordPress blog… join your new home on the net… meet the rest of the wacky bunch at WordPress Pinoys!

Oh and by the way… for those who aren’t aware… WordPress Pinoys used to be located at Google Groups but due to the sudden upsurge of memberships, tracking conversations and discussions within the group became a tedious and sometimes impossible task.  So, we finally put up our own forum located here.  Discussion threads and the exchanging of ideas are much easier to monitor now.  And everyone seems to be happy with it (Whew!).  I’ve wanted so badly for the transition from one site to the other to be a smooth one that I practically didn’t have time to maintain my own blog!  Haha… But we have very competent and responsible moderators over there already so I can go back to my regular blogging habit.  Did anyone miss my articles?  Anyone at all?  Hehe.  Anyhow, everyone who was (and still is) a member of the “WordPress Pinoys” Google Group is now a member of this new incarnation.  So, SALI NA!

So I guess that’s it!  More articles very soon… Hope everyone missed me!  You guys did miss me, right?  Right?!

Pinoy Ako! WordPress Pinoy Bloggers!

Hello people! I recently put up a group for WordPress.Com and WordPress.Org Pinoy Bloggers… I figured, we’ve been posting comments on each other’s blogs, sharing jokes, sympathizing with each other’s struggles and challenges, laughing and sharing on other’s triumphs, but never really get to interact more than we actually can.

But (hopefully) with the help of this new group called, “WordPress Pinoys”, we can probably make our community tighter… mas “SOLID” kumbaga. Please invite your other Pinoy WordPress bloggers to join the group so that those whom others haven’t met can get acquainted with one another.

We can do a whole lot with this group… we can start organizing events, eyeballs, get-togethers, and even find new ways to drive traffic to each others blogs!

I really hope we can all gather around this idea and help the group flourish… and expand. If we can really make this an entire Pinoy WordPress network, we can probably even have WordPress-sanctioned Pinoy events in the future!

So… if you’re a Filipino and you happen to have a blog here at WordPress.Com or manage your own blog powered by WordPress.Org then click the image below and join the group! We’d love to meet (and have) new members!

After signing up, if it isn’t too much trouble… please use the image above and kindly post it on your WordPress sidebar and link it to the group’s site.

OR

You could just copy the HTML code below and paste it to your “text widget” (image is 200px wide):

<p align="center"><a href="http://groups.google.com/group/wordpress-pinoys" target="_blank"><img src="http://chuckster.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/pinoy-ako-sali-na-wordpress.jpg" alt="Sali Na! Join the Pinoy WordPress Bloggers Group!"></a></p>

For those who want a smaller image so that it could fit your current blog theme’s sidebar (150px wide to be exact), you can use this code instead:

<p align="center"><a href="http://groups.google.com/group/wordpress-pinoys" target="_blank"><img src="http://chuckster.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/pinoy-ako-sali-na-wordpress-smaller.jpg" alt="Sali Na! Join the Pinoy WordPress Bloggers Group!"></a></p>

Kaya sali na! Hope to see you there soon!

Inquirer Article

I’d like to thank “Rito Asilo” for posting a wonderful article on last Sunday’s edition of The “Daily Inquirer” (print and online versions).  The article’s main topic was all about Sarah Geronimo’s latest album, “Taking Flight”, but on the last paragraph of the writeup, Rito made special mention of how I, in his own words, “reinvented my artistic persona”…

Rito, thank you for the writeup.  Much appreciated!

Greatest American Hero

Sorry… just had to.  I’m a sucker for 80s stuff and the OBB of this show just threw me instantaneously back to 1983!  I heard Touchstone and Disney are already in the process of making a remake of “The Greatest American Hero” for the big screen.  No details yet as to whom the lead roles shall be given to.

Take a trip back to the 80s with me…

A high school math teacher is given a special suit by mysterious aliens that will allow him to perform amazing feats (flying, super-strength, X-ray vision, shrinking, invisibility, just about every super power). The problem is that he quickly loses the instruction book, so he has to learn how to use the suit, which, quite frankly, he’s not very good at… He’s soon joined by an FBI agent, who teams up with the “super hero”, basically using him to fight crime, etc.

Smells Like Ting(gel) Spirit…

Vulva PerfumeUmmm… pardon the blog article’s title… but I thought it apt to name it such… (we’ll get to that soon enough)…!

Ok… let me start elaborating as to why the title came about. Ready? Some of you probably have heard of this already but for those who weren’t fortunate enough to take an early “whiff” of the information, this one’s for YOU!

DID YOU KNOW… that there’s a NEW perfume for men that actually smells like the (thinking of a cute way of calling it…) “peepee” of a woman? It’s soooo f*ckin true! It’s called (ready for it?)… “VULVA”!

Here is their “press release”:

The erotic and intimate scent of an irresistible woman has been encapsulated into a small glass bottle, not as a perfume but purely as a substance for your own smelling pleasure.

The bottle is to be shaken gently and when only a tiny amount of this intoxicating substance is applied to the back of the hand the irresistible smell of a moist, sensuous vagina exudes and immediately intensifies your erotic fantasies, stimulating the cinematic visions of the imagination.

Breathe in and enjoy the scent of a beautiful woman anytime, anywhere!

Now I don’t know about you, but the way I see it… You have got to be soooo freaking desperate to resort to sniffing your own bottle of portable PEEPEE! Bwahahaha!

As if “TV Patrol”, “GMA Network News” and “SOCO” don’t have enough rape cases to cover all over the country already… bring this baby in and watch our presently escalating crime rate skyrocket to new record highs! Not to mention our “baby factories” (slum and squatters area) within the metropolis! LOL!

Does it come in three variants kaya?

  1. “Pre-intimate wash” aroma

  2. “After intensive stress at work” aroma

  3. “UTI” aroma

Check out their commercial below! Classy, eh?! LOL!

Lol! Sorry… couldn’t help myself! It’s just really hilarious…! Look at the guy on the second picture above… pretending to sniff ala connoisseur of peepee odors! Ok… I’ll stop now… I’ll leave you guys to your imaginations, my little dirty-minded, naughty readers!
