This post is for all the Pinoys who spent most of their childhood here in the Philippines (particularly the baby-boomers who lived in the Metro Manila area). Filipinos who spent most of their early years abroad will not be able to relate to this article… but you’re more than welcome to read along if you want to.
Do you remember how it was back in the 80s? Do you still recall how the Greenhills Shopping Center and Makati Commercial District looked like then? When Shakey’s was a dim lit noisy pub/pizza parlor and Choo-Choo Junction was the best place to eat spaghetti? Remember how high the metal fountain tree was in the middle of Virra Mall? And when you got tired of looking at it, you could stop for a quick bite at “Cindy’s” right beside Shiroi Hanna Japanese Restaurant.
When the more popular snacks you could find then were Chickadees, Star Kist, Jack & Jill Munchees… and Tarzan, Big Boy and Bazooka Joe were the best tasting gum ever!
Waking up really early in the morning looking forward to watching “Saturday Fun Machine” on RPN-9… and “The Electric Company” was just as popular as “Sesame Street”! When Cable TV was non-existent and FEN (Far Eastern Network) was the “in” thing for as provided you had a really tall directional antenna pointed in the general direction of Clark Airbase in Angeles, Pampanga.
I’m sure you could recall a whole lot more… you’re probably even wishing to be able to go back to those wonderful days again. Well, you could… in a sense.
Checkout the weblog called Nostalgia Manila. It’s packed with lots and lots of wonderful memories of Manila back in the 70s & 80s! Plenty of pictures, old commercial videos, and unearthed clips of TV shows and movies that you’re sure to remember!
The first time I visited this site… I was immediately glued to the monitor. You should probably allot around 20-30 minutes when you visit this site.
