The Candles AVP

During Candles’ Album Launch last December 9, 2006 at the R&B Music Venue, right before the band started to perform, an Audio Video Presentation of the group was played to the audience. This was the video that was played.

It was directed, edited and produced by yours truly :) . The video features the members of Candles talking about how they hooked up and formed the band… how they describe the type of music they play… and much more. For those who don’t know… Candles is a pop-alternative band I am co-managing. Hope you guys like it.

Extraordinary!

Extraordinary!Just finished watching “Keith Barry: Extraordinary”… and boy was I blown away!  I was flipping on the channels and as soon as I caught the show, I was instantly glued.

All I could say to myself was, “How the f**k did he do that?!”.

I’ve seen shows of David Copperfield and David Blaine… but I particularly enjoyed this one.  Too bad I wasn’t able to record it for my wife who loves watching these shows with me.  I’ll probably try to check on the tv sked and find out when they’ll be replaying the show.

F**king awesome!  :D

Candles Album…

Candles Album CoverJust want to remind my avid blog visitors and “candle bearers” (what Candles’ fans are usually called) alike that the self-titled album of Candles is still available at your favorite record bars all over Metro Manila (Philippines). I believe, according to Frank (the band’s vocalist), the album is available on the net and could be ordered online as well. Heard that the album could also be bought through iTunes (but I’ve yet to confirm its authenticity).

Please get a copy. I’m sure you won’t regret purchasing one. Lots of good originals as well as excellent renditions of a few covers. Some of my favorite tracks included are: “Her and You”, “Weekend Love”, “6:15”, “Upside Down” (a wonderful remake), and more!

You can also check out Candles’ Official Website for more about the band and their music. There is also an official Candles Blog which I just recently put up. No posts there yet other than my welcome message. But some of the band members are pretty avid bloggers so I’m sure it’ll fill up in no time.

Christmas with Colonel Sanders

Christmas with Colonel Sanders

In the spirit of Christmas and all that is merry (to the tummy) during the holidays… I present to you (tada!) the “Christmas with Colonel Sanders” vinyl album! Hahaha!

Stumbled upon the pic. Kinda makes you want to hoard a truckload of KFC chicken buckets for the Christmas feast, huh? :)

Biding my time (and biting my nails) till “showtime”…

Looking at my watch (which is usually not set to the correct time)… whiling the hours till I take my wife to work and off to the SM Mall of Asia where Candles, the band I’m co-managing, will be performing 2 songs during the Radioworks “ONE” Concert. I’m pretty sure it’ll be a jam-packed event considering all the big bands and artists that’ll be there to play as well. The show’s about to start in an hour but my band’s scheduled to play around 8:45PM (soundcheck is at 8:15PM) so I guess, I don’t really have to be there right away.

I’m taking my wifey to work first (which is along the way) and then I’ll be going straight to the event’s venue. Richie, my band’s rhythm guitarist, has been text messaging me… he’s still in the province tring to make it back asap. I told him that the band members are expecting him to make it back on time since he promised to play tonight and also cause he committed to playing in the event a good 3 weeks ago. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that’s more than ample time for anyone to get their schedules in place. Now, why he’s in the province doing what he’s doing during an event he’s vowed to attend is beyond my comprehension. Fine… fine… as long as he makes it.

If he doesn’t… well, that’s a different story.

I can imagine Jun’s face if and when Richie doesn’t make it. I’m hoping it doesn’t come to that… <crossing my fingers>.

Never tire…

Just rambling…

I really love how my wife offers to prepare something (like food) for me even in the middle of the night when she’s just about to retire for the evening.  I know she doesn’t have to do it… but still she does.  She never tires of it… and though I never tell her, I really love her for that… for all the little things she does.

Honey, you’ll probably stumble upon this post and in case you do… I love you.  You’re so wonderful… Thank you.

Muah!  :)

Merry Christmas, Baby

Candles, the band I am currently co-managing was asked to participate in an “all-original Christmas compilation album” produced by radio station: Jam 88.3 (to those abroad, Jam 88.3 is a pop-alternative station here in the Philippines). The only snag was that Candles didn’t have any original Christmas song that they could contribute. I was rung up by band co-manager, Jun Regalado, informing me of the band’s predicament. The station needed the song ASAP… and they didn’t mean just the song… it had to be recorded, mixed and mastered and delivered to the station pronto to make it to the album.

I didn’t want the band NOT to be part of the album considering how important a “career move” it was for them to be a part of it. This compilation album is already on its 3rd installment and has been an on-going tradition of the station. Almost all the known bands in the Philippine music scene and big named artists have participated on the previously produced albums.

So, being the OCD person that I sometimes am… I put my obsessiveness to good use. I pulled out my trusty pen and paper (well, actually I just turned on my PC and worked on Word… it just sounds nice!) and spent about an hour writing a Christmas song that I thought would best suit the band’s image. I spent another hour and a half working on the musical arrangement which I made sure the band wouldn’t have a hard time rendering. Also, I didn’t really go for the fluffy, softy, light and holiday-ish feel on the song. It wasn’t what I intended for the band. Instead, I composed something that didn’t sound like a holiday song but a rockin’ and catchy upbeat tune that had a “commercial touch”.

I entitled it, “Merry Christmas, Baby”. And it was ready for vocal recording immediately the next day. Some of the people who first heard the final master said that it had shades of a Gin Blossoms song. I guess that’s good thing cause I really love listening to Gin Blossoms and it probably showed on this particular composition.

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand… Errr… Fifty Thousand Pesos!

Zzzzz...I was going through a few pics cluttered inside my PC and I saw a picture I haven’t seen in quite a while.  It was actually a picture I took with my camera phone which I submitted to a Smart Photo Contest early 2004.  The contest I think was named “Pic Ü”.  I took this photo when I was at the “Ninoy Aquino International Airport” to pick up a relative.  As soon as I parked my car, I went to the public toilet to relieve myself.  On my way out of the comfort room, I noticed a person slumped and sleeping on the sink with a towelette over his head.  Being the impulsive person that I am… I took out my handy dandy cellphone and shot away!  But I just intended for this photo to be part of my personal “funny collection”.  Back then I never even knew there would be a Smart Photo Contest.

Anyways, I submitted this photo as an entry for the photo competition and to my surprise it was chosen as the one of the Monthly 1st Prize Winners (I was given a Nokia 3650) AND it actually made me win the GRAND PRIZE for the Contest netting me a cool 50GRAND!  Who would’ve known!  :)

I just wanted to share this photo with everyone.  Hehe!  Enjoy!
